An Obama Thought

Ok I have to talk about this.  I voted for Obama without any preconditions.  Here are Obama’s Picks for cabinets positions so far:

Former Senate Democratic leader Tom Daschle to be his secretary of Health and Human Services.

Retired Marine Gen. James L. Jones.

Democratic primary rival Hillary Rodham Clinton as secretary of state.

Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, staying in his current post.

Washington lawyer Eric Holder as attorney general.

Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano as homeland security secretary.

New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson to be Commerce secretary.

Why is Richardson a Latino at the bottom of the barrel position?  That is the question.  Why there are no Latinos, Hispanics or whatever the hell you want to call us prepared to take on any of these positions. Or for that matter just considered.

We have no good Generals, no good lawyers (look at what Alberto Gonzalez did), no good public servants. I understand Obama is putting the best team possible to help our country come out the hole. But man why the hell we don’t have more of us in Washington.  It blows my mind.

I was at the home of one of my best friends on a get together in Newport Coast. They are Cubans like me.  He was talking about that there is a search for an Hispanic woman that in the future might be nominated for the Supreme Court. And they cant find any.  I mean there are NONE. “Incredible” I said “are you telling me there are NO women anywhere in the US considered for the Supreme Court” he said “there are none”.  WTF?

Well then I started looking around my friends and people I know. All I could find are people trying to survive by screwing other people. Guys making good money but no degrees, or any aspiration for ever getting one.  People that own business while undocumented. Friends that own restaurants but no aspirations for nothing other than their next restaurant (Miguel’s 1, Miguel’s 2 Miguel’s 3) . Kids that are eager to work and no to go to school.  Maybe cause being tired of being poor. Hispanics girls pregnant everywhere. Kids joining gangs.  Man what a screw up bunch. What the hell are we doing? 

Enough said… But the truth is we need to be better if we want to be included in the next great society.  We have to sacrifice and work for the future (our children) and not for us. It is nice to have the German cars the big house that we can barely afford, all the credit cards in the world and one step from declaring bankruptcy. At the end you take nothing and you leave behind children that never saw you because you were too busy to even talk to them.

I don’t have any answers. All I can do now is think hard about my children future. What ever plan I come up with I should stick to it.
